Shungite Noble & Sterling Silver Pendant

Noble (aka Elite or Royal) Shungite and Sterling Silver Pendant, approximate size 13mm at widest point x 29mm long. 

Noble (or Elite) Shungite is the rarest form of Shungite, a black vitreous mineral with a semi-metallic, silvery shine. It is a unique natural stone containing 98% organic carbon. The total composition consists of  carbon 98%, nitrogen, oxygen 0.9%, hydrogen 0.3% and ash content up to 0.8%.   This form ) of Shungite (Noble or Elite) accounts for only 1% of all Shungite that is found. This form of Shungite has phenomenal shielding power that arises from its unique formation. Its C60 carbon molecule is composed of fullerenes, otherwise called "Buckyballs", named after Buckminster Fuller, an American engineer, architect, inventor and writer, who amongst many other accomplishments created and constructed the geodesic dome at the  Montreal EXPO in 1967.  The smallest stable fullerene brings together 60 carbon atoms composed of 20 hexagons and 12 pentagons on the shape of a soccer ball. This was only discovered as recently as 1985 and led to the award of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1995.  The geodesic dome that Buckminster Fuller conceived is an exact replica of the structure of fullerene C60.

Shungite is found in a place called Karelia in Russia and it's healing properties have been recognised locally for centuries.  This mineral formed billions of years ago and has been known for thousands of years by local people in the region of Lake Onega (the Russian part of Karelia). Nomadic tribes of hunter-gatherers gradually settled in Karelia after the last ice age and petroglyphs and rock paintings dating back 4000 to 9000 years exist in this area.
