What makes Tree-Free Cards so green ?
Tree-Free TM greeting cards and matching envelopes are made from Sweetpaper TM, which is manufactured from sugar cane bagasse and printed with soy based inks.
Sugar cane bagasse is a waste product of the sugar refining industry; it is fibrous material remaining in the sugar cane after the sugar is removed. By using this waste product as paper pulp, Tree-Free is putting to good use a product which would otherwise be landfilled !

One ton of refined sugar results in two tons of bagasse waste !
Sugar cane grows very quickly and is widely cultivated.
Bagasse requires less energy and bleaching chemical requirements to make into paper !
Sweetpaper TM is processed Elemental Chlorine Free and releases no harmful dioxin into the environment.
Now Tree-Free is even greener than before !
Their paper mills are working towards a zero carbon footprint, purchasing energy generated from wind, hydroelectric, biomass and geothermal sources. One is almost completely off the grid, using self-generated hydropower !
In addition, the mills cogeneration facility uses the waste heat from a nearby powerplant to dry the paper.
In total, the mill purchases or supplies enough power from alternative and renewable sources to make over 16 million kilos of paper every year !
